Parasite-Modified Chemical Communication: Implications for Aquatic Community Dynamics

نویسندگان

چکیده

Chemical communication within an aquatic environment creates intricate signaling web that provides species with information about their surroundings. Signaling molecules, like oxylipins, mediate a multitude of interactions between free-living members community including non-consumptive effects by predators. Parasites are another source molecules in communities and contribute directly synthesizing them or indirectly manipulating host chemical cues. If cues infected hosts altered, then other the may also be affected. Different from alter behaviors individuals related to foraging, competition, defense priming. Here, we discuss how parasites could modify cues, which have far reaching consequences for ecosystem. We modification represent mechanism parasite-modified behavior some systems provide parasites. Further, propose host-parasite system used investigate key, unanswered questions regarding relationship behavior, effects. explain trematode-gastropod can test whether there alterations diversity amounts available, if habitat use, immune function, Finally, argue changes pathway crosstalk broad ecological implications.

Impacts of crustacean invasions on parasite dynamics in aquatic ecosystems: A plea for parasite-focused studies

While there is considerable interest in, and good evidence for, the role that parasites play in biological invasions, the potential parallel effects of species introduction on parasite dynamics have clearly received less attention. Indeed, much effort has been focused on how parasites can facilitate or limit invasions, and positively or negatively impact native host species and recipient commun...

Modified Newtonian Dynamics and its Implications

Milgrom has proposed that the appearance of discrepancies between the Newtonian dynamical mass and the directly observable mass in astronomical systems could be due to a breakdown of Newtonian dynamics in the limit of low accelerations rather than the presence of unseen matter. Milgrom’s hypothesis, modified Newtonian dynamics or MOND , has been remarkably successful in explaining systematic pr...

Modified Linear Approximation for Assessment of Rigid Block Dynamics

This study proposes a new linear approximation for solving the dynamic response equations of a rocking rigid block. Linearization assumptions which have already been used by Hounser and other researchers cannot be valid for all rocking blocks with various slenderness ratios and dimensions; hence, developing new methods which can result in better approximation of governing equations while keepin...

Fibrogenesis: Mechanisms, Dynamics and Clinical Implications

Fibrosis is the pathological condition resulting in the growth of excess fibrous connective tissue in an organ or body system as a reparative or reactive process. In the field of clinical pathology, clinicians and medical scientists are endeavoring to translate experimental knowledge into effective, innovative treatments for a range of fibrotic conditions. The amelioration of whole organ functi...
